		In addition to our renovation expertise, at Dutel we are skilled in re-milling old wood to be re-used for flooring, beams, mantles, bookcases, and more. We provide wood remilling services to other contractors as well as using remilled wood for many of our own projects. Remilled wood has several advantages over new lumber: Quality - Many remilled boards come from rare, old-growth trees of a durability that can't be found anymore. Beauty - Likewise, old boards frequently possesses special grain patterns, colors, or unique characteristics that add to their personality. Conservation - Reusing old wood saves living trees. Environmentalism - Recycling wood saves landfill space and avoids the waste created when processing new trees into wood.

	Remilling Antique Heart Pine - Before and After Wood for remilling comes from a variety of sources.  It can be 200 year-old pine from salvaged floor joists, roof rafters, even foundation sills.  In this example, the original wood was taken from foundation sills in a hurricane damaged home on Perdido Street in New Orleans.  During remilling, the wood is sanded and rehabilitated.  After remilling the beautiful finished product can be used for anything from custom benches and kitchen cabinets to floors and fireplace mantels all without cutting down one single new tree!
